Default GMC CCKW generator on a CMP

Hi,

My original Delco-Remy generator stopped working, again... Probably a short in the Field coil, which probably needs to be rewound.

Someone told me that a GMC CCKW generator will work fine with the original regulator and should fit on the 216 engine. Is this true, and do I need to know anything before running out and getting a GMC generator? For example: Will the GMC puly work with the belt on the 216

I am planning on getting my original generator rebuild, but need another generator in the meantime. And having a spare one after the original works again is not that bad either...

Cheers!
