Default CMP Cabs

Hi guys,

I am a member of this discussion forum not a long time, so maybe my question was already discussed.
Anyway, I am working on scale drawing of military vehicles needed for plastic modelers. I started to work on CMP lately. I came by a lot of questions, here are at least two:
Are front mudguard on No. 11 and No.13 cabs identical?
Another question: sring hangers. I have a Ford parts list. I have seen also a lot of restored vehicles over Europe. It seems to me that there were several sets of slightly different hangers, although I have not seen anything like that to be mentioned as a difference between different cabs, wheelbases, body types or Ford and Chevy. Is there any rule what type of hangers was on what vehicle?
Thanks in advance,
Jan Mostek, Prague, Czech rep.

Default Cabs

The mudguards on 11 and 12 I think are the same, the 13 is different, and the C8A is different again with narrower mudguards. Spring hangers are different between Ford and Chev.

The C8 and F8 have narrower front wings compared to the larger trucks . I think they just cut the standard wing to make it fit . I have seen differences on the front edge too , the cab 12 C8 I had had a deeper front edge compared to the cab 11 .

Hi Jan,

As you say there was some variation in spring hanger design across the CMP range, the main difference being Chev/Ford as Keith mentions. The situation with Fords can be summed up as follows:

4x2 CMP: Light duty spring hangers front and rear.

4x4 CMP: Heavy duty spring hangers front and rear. Identical throughout the range of vehicles. 3 types of RHF spring hanger according to steering box set up:

1. Cab 11/12: 375 type steering box mounted directly to chassis.
2. Cab 13 early production: 375 type steering box mounted partly to spring hanger.
3. Cab 13 late production: 400 type steering box mounted directly to spring hanger.

Auxiliary rear springs: fitted to all 4x4 CMPs except SWB chassis.

Hope this helps, let us know if you need photos/measurements.

Cheers,
Tony

Default Down at the farm.....

From what we have seen on Fords and Chev the rear hangers for the rear axle/springs all seem to be the same BUT the front hangers on Fords for the front axle is different than the Chev..... Ford has a fancy curved hooked hanger at the back end of the front spring. And even Fords CMP produced with GM front and rear axles retained the Ford hangers and Ford shock absorbers......

Gets even more complicated... the GM HUP, which is almost a CMP, has fancy rear curved front axle mounts BUT different than the Ford.......

Then of course there were production run modification done on at least Chev CMPs where the front spring mount of the front axle is also different....some have sliding feature while earlier ones have different pin yoke arrangement similar to the front rear spring.....

All of which I probably can supply pictures.....

Cheers
