Made on a special day
While dismantling an Austin lorry engine for a rebuild today, I spotted something significant. The casting date shows it as 6th June 1944, by the Austin Foundry. This proves one thing for sure, that this engine did not power a vehicle up the beach on D-Day

Wow!
Richard,
What a piece of history you have there! Well spotted too, by the way. Just imagine what the production line workers would have been listening to on the radio (sorry...Wireless) while that was going together. Pity you're not closer to me, I have digital recordings of news broadcasts of WWII, including the first full 48hrs of D Day reports. Interesting listening while working on a period military vehicle. Certainly puts one 'in the mood'.
