Default Aust LP2A Carrier 2345 In Service with the CMF

Attached are some pictures of Australian LP2A Carrier 2345 in service with the CMF in the 1950's (I think the CMF was formed in 1954, so I'd guess the pictures would be then or later).

According to my dad (who is the young boy in the photo with the white hat sitting in the carrier) they were taken near Ipswich in Queensland. Can anyone confirm the location of the "Royal Exchange Hotel" in the background of that photo?

I'm not sure if the carrier on the pontoon is carrier 2345 as the front guards on it appear to have been dented. A few more to follow.

Great pics Ian. It's good to see a bit of local history. I haven't been able to find out anything about the Royal Exchange Hotel. It may have been in one of the outlying country towns. Was your grandfather by chance with 9 or 25 RQR? I know QMI had staghounds and white scout cars in the 50's.

Does anyone know what if 2345 is still around?

Cheers

2345 is not on my list however it appears to be in a batch produced by South Australian Railways.

2340 and 2341 are in existence

Default Carrier 2345

Hi Peter, I once owned South Aust carrier 2300,very badly cut down it was used at a saw mill out the back of Beaudesert in the early 60s,there was at the time another one in the same area, not cut and that was sold to the Giltraps museum at Kirra on the Gold coast it was there for many years, I did take pics of it at the time but canot find them now,it was later sold when the museum closed down and it went down somewhere near Newcastle to a collector, Sorry but I do not know the number of it, at the time there was also a White half track in the area but long gone now,
Regards Ron
