Chevy 15cwt Rear Load Area Help

Hi all,

I am hoping some one here can help me. I am a modeller and military history fan who loves nothing better than combining my hobbies, and making the former more difficult either by finding information out or finding good photographs. At the present moment in time I am building/improving the old Italeri Kit of the venerable Chevy 15cwt. Whilst building the rear compartment I have a few questions regarding the canvas and the 'rear' seats.

1. Was the rear seating actually fitted in all vehicles and how did they fit them?
2. I have looked at the pictures of the main canvas and I assume that users may have rolled up the sides if required. But is there a drawing of the tilt frame available?

I am fortunate enough to know that our local branch of the Military Vehicle Trust has a 30cwt (Lottie) and at some point I will end up measuring her up for a conversion from the 15cwt to the 30cwt.

Rear load area and tilt as well as the whole rear box depends on which model and which army the truck belongs to.

Where are you located Brian and which army are you depicting the truck belonging too?

Hi Brian,

The answer to your questions are:
(a) No, only to the "Personnel" version. The only difference between the GS version and the Personnel version was the fitting of those seats.

Hanno, Cliff,

Thank you very much for the links, this is just what I was looking for. I will be painting my model as a British vehicle as a QM's 15cwt. The CMP is actually a 2nd vehicle for a small diorama featuring a Crusader Mk III AA. The important thing for me was getting the rear as clocse as possible as I will have the canvas rolled up.

If you have any more info I would always be very grateful.

Would it possible to add your web links to any future blog that I may write on a modelling web site. Your information is very useful and I hadn't seen it before.
