Default hole in seat?

I have seen pictures of universal carriers were the drivers seat has a square hole in the middle.
Why was this done?

Perhaps it saved the driver from leaning to one side if he felt the need to pass wind. Therefore forcing it down and to the occupants in the rear so the driver doesn't lose consentration.

Default Holes in seats

Obviously Colin, all your carriers will have that style of seat, by nessessity. ( We could go for days like this!)
Barry, can you show us a picture? I dont recall ever seeing one, of that style.

Default hemeroid hole

It was for a seat belt. Can't remember the name but it was the same style as used in th aircraft. It's in Nigels book I think. Sutton harness.

Default Hole in seat?

Very funny guys !!

But have a look at nigels second book vol 2 page 19 and 22.
Note the square hole in the back of the drivers seat.

Any ideas?

Barry

Default in the back

So the square hole is in the back of the seat? All these amateur proctologists have had too much fermented Aloe Vera juice to get their jokes straight!

Still don't know the answer, but I'm waiting for some wise guy to chime in.

It was a seat belt used in aircraft . It's in nigel's book Universal carriers Vol. II. page 41 bottom of page. I had asked this question awhile back asking what some brackets were in my carrier but no one knew.

Default Sutton safety harnes

The harness that was adapted to the carriers was essentially the same as the harness for the spitfire.
