Default Unknown tarp, looking for id help

Hi everyone

Ive been asked if I knew what this tarp was used for but I dont. So Im turning here to see if it can be id'd. Its got a large C broad arrow on it and dated 1945. It is 23' long and 10' wide. The ends are angled and narrow to 2' at one end and 3' at the other. Near the one end is a metal plate rivited into the canvas and it has a snap clasp on a web strap attached. The tarp also has brass grommets along the outer edges and some rope tied to it.

The people who have it thought it might have been for a boat cover.

I have no idea but thought someone here may know.
