Hello. I am writing a history of the 7th Reconnaissance Regiment in WW2 as part of a larger history of the Royal Canadian Hussars (1812-present). Can anyone please tell me if the 7th Recce used the Mark I or the Mark II in North-West Europe. Thanks

Hi Anthony,

Would they have been allocated according to Mk? I would expect any Mark vehicle available would have been sent out without any delay. In period photos there is usually a mix of Mark's unless early in the war when MkII's weren't produced yet. The difference between the two types is also not very huge so spares are almost the same apart from some of the electrical bits.

Singe Ager might be able to shed more light on this as he is the most knowledgeable after years of studying Daimlers.

Regards,

In this thread, post #9, it's stated they had at least one MkII. All the others there for are Mk1's.
No idea as to the truth in that because I don't research this kind of information.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Thank you, Marc, for your double response.
Sorry for delayed response - computer troubles.
The historian of 7th Reconnaissance Regiment was a scout troop leader during the war, and since he was writing immediately after the war he may have taken reader knowledge for granted. Anyway, he said very little about the vehicles used by the regiment. The War Diary is very "lean," to put it charitably, and does not go into this kind of detail. I think that I will go with Mark 1s with the possibility (as per Don Dingwall, MLU) of the odd Mark II before the end of the war.
