Default Carrier Seats,

Hi Guys,
well its time to make the seat bases and backs for my carrier, has anyone out there got some good pictures of the seat bases and backs of the various seats in an Australian universal carrier that they can post for me to see what they look like,
Thank you in advance,
regards,
Ron,

PS,
What material was used?

Default Seats

Hello Ron
Is it just the padded stuff or the whole assemblies you require? Also front, rear or both?
Bob

Default seats,

Hi Bob,
I have to make the lot for both the front and back. my carrier was stripped when I got it the only thing left in it was the small metal bracket that the very pistol holster was fitted onto
Regards,
Ron,

Default Carrier Seats

Hello Ron

A lot of the details you require are in the Spare Parts Manual I sent you. Surprisingly the large plate that supports the Driver's and Gunner's seats aren't in there. I don't have immediate access to these plates to measure them up. You must remember them from your previous Carrier. However the following images should help. I know Tim Tam Tony has quick access to a Carrier, maybe if he reads this or you contact him he may be able to give you those measurments.

I fabricated the front seat floor brackets from flat plate and steam pipe that had the exact bore of the pins attached to the seats alowing the vertical movement.

Bob

Default seats,

Hello Bob,
sorry I did not explain myself clearly. I have made up the front seat bases, also the rear seat brackets over the petrol tanks and the rear seat brackets for the rear wall, what I had meant but did not explain very well was the covering of the seats and the method of attaching them to the bases, I have made up the large steel plates that cover the air filter operning that the driver and gunners seats are attached to, thanks bob I refer to that manual constantly and its been a great help, as I said befor there was nothing in my carrier at all except that bracket that the very pistol fits on, I used to know personaly a couple of men that went throughout the west just stripping carriers, pity they had no real use for the parts,
Regards,
Ron,

Default Seat Coverings

Hello Ron
It's a typical upholstery set up with the material wrapped around a wooden base and tacked to those bases. The bases are then screwed onto the brackets. The manual describes the material as "leather cloth" that to my understanding is that brown vinyl leather looking material that used to be on all the old truck seats. Although most of the restored Carriers I have seen have all utilised the khaki green material.

Default Manual

Hi,
Sorry to say I do not have a complete manual, these were just p/copies I took from various pages to do a modelling project.

The Cobbaton Museum in North Devon UK, has some parts manuals, but when I was there, it involved dismantling about 15 tons of junk to get at them. But if you contact Preston Issac at the museum he may be willing to sell one.

EMail me off line and I will see if there is anything that will help from what I have.

I have front seats for MkI and II, engine cover, engine bearers, fan cowling, engine gearbox and rear axle. Plus the intermediate bulkhead, and rear plate. Also a load of stowage diagrams. As I said these were for models and not the real thing so I was selective.

I am interested in that you have an AOP version, is this the one with the revised air ducts at the rear, and blanked off section of the intermediate bulkhead, where normally there is an opening for the radiator?

Hope I can be of help.

George.
