Shipping firms
Ok folks has anyone any recomendations for shipping firms, I had been quoted £1900 by shipmycar.co.uk but the owner has not returned any of my emails for over a month now (so i can confirm and book dates) i would like to shop and get some quotes but some net based firms want circa £3000 to do the job which is a tad hefty bill if i do say so myself.

Be very careful when selecting your shipper. I arranged for shipping through a broker, which meant that they posted the need and waited for a response. After two weeks of building storage fees and I cancelled their contract. Although I was eleigible for a refund of my deposit I never received it, even when the State of Florida intervened on my behalf. My suggestion is to check out the oversight agency which covers any firm you select to see if there's been any complaints. However, the best thing is to go with a firm someone has used and has given you a strong recommendation. Regards, Jim |

shipping to uk.
Hi, bring it in with John Grange Shipping, based at felixstowe suffolk, John brought my carrier in no problem, sorted out the import fees, taxes, port fees loading/unloading etc, he should have a commodity code on file from my carrier he brought in from Ontario, it's a historic item so you only pay 5% vat on the declared value, you have to pay vat on the shipping fees aswell. however you look at it will take up over half of a 20' sea contatiner, It will cost you £2500 all in Richard, this is based on a carrier weight of 3.5 tons, yours is less, I would quote 2 tons for yours, John has handled stuff for the imperial war museam, this is right up his street, he is very helpful, dont forget your vat paid form as you will need this when you come to register it with the DVLA as an imported vehicle, no road tax, no mot, pay £55 for an age relared plate £75 insurance and drive it around the streets on 'L' plates until you get your 'H' licence (you will have to take out the gunners seat) if the police stop you say there is no seat for a co-driver and on you go ? even taking the 'H' test is easy the examiner will come round your house. More pictures of your carrier please. it looks like its come on leaps !! Is she up and running yet? Where about are you in the UK? I'm not sure now how may carriers still exist in the UK ? I quess Nigel can tell us. But its about time we organised a Carrier meet. Lets all get together. The record stands at I think 4 together in 2005 at W & P ( 3 x U C's + 1 x LP2 ) (There was another carrier at the show but never made it into the arena) Should now be easy to break. |

snails pace restoration
To be honest we are not really making much progress, I seem to be working all the time! Any time we do manage to put in is spent keeping the C8As serviced and running, We ahd a few calamaties last year and that slowed us down a bit, my latest problem is that our youngest has descovered the Jeep in the shed,so theres another problem to resolve!, but we'll get around to it in time. I am currently working in getting it mechanically complete the engine and transmission arrived as a bunch of gravel dropped in the back of the carrier, following that the biggest headache is the stering selector which is very badly corroded, possibly because it sits below the battery tray, otherwise it seems quite sound.

Aussie Blitz Freight

There is a group of us Aussies attending the 65th D-day activities this year and we are bringing our own vehicles via Turkey, Greece, Crete, Italy, Switzerland and into france. We are freighting 17 Vehicles to Istanbul. I'm not sure of the costings but it is not off the planet. Do you have the truck or are you looking for one? Nigel |

Yep. you are right. i will look at a map next time I comment on distance in Europe. Its a problem we Aussies have. Once we get to the other side of the world ( about 22 hours flying) we assume everything is close at hand. Sorry once again. We are passing through your neck of the woods on our way to France. Where use to the colonial trust issue. I can't think why it is so. Our nation was built on good honest people who set sail in the hope of finding the promised land. er, sorry. I'll start again. SOME of our great, great x6 grand parents MAY have stolen a loaf of bread to feed their poor, starving children and got nabbed in the act. mmmm, ok. Ok where the result of 200 plus years of breeding from the worst stock you could find..........................AND, where proud of it. So, I understand how Geoff felt. Right i have had a quote from MJS shipping (Yateley Hampshire) anyone know of this firm ? they have quoted £1677 from Fergus to Liverpool
break down of Base Freight............£1512.00 Forwarding fee........£0045.00 UK customs............£0035.00 Marine Insurance.....£0085.00 have they or i missed anything ? is there anything i should be aware of, i dont want to get stung like others have as i cant afford it. they have told me if i use wood in the loading / securing it has to be treated wood with a certificate present, and the vehicle needs blasted clean and certified by the seller. I am stuck with the loading of the carrier as i have been told the container will be 4ft off the floor which i cant understand why ? why not load it on the floor then lift it onto the ship ? cheers Richard

ok update spoken to the firm the reason for it being 4ft off the deck is the wagon gets sent to the sellers address (with container) so need to figure some way of loading it in, blimey this is a task in itself.
we only have two hours to load it then its £50 per hour the truck has to wait. on top of the quote is the costs for a broker that will need to be sought (at the Canadian end) to see it through Canadian customs. so god knows how much that will cost on top....

Hi Richard,
No problem to load, find out if there is a a tractor in the area or close by, fitted with a bucket you are talking less tha two tons, that can be lifted easy with a front end loader or small mobile crane, a quick check of the local phone book will find someone, particuly if its in a rural area, Regards Ron
