As best I can, following are pics of various NZ CMP vehicles plus a jailbar Ford ambulance if I get that far. All photos courtesy of New Zealand Army magazine, an official publication. Photos were passed on to me directly from one of the editors ca. 1980.

The pic with the chains and seats... wonderful, almost like they're the optional extras - even floor sections! What a strange sort of a photo.
Is it possible to read what's on the blackboard in the original print? Bill, thanks for sharing them - Love the ex-portee - look at the front wheelspin!

Kit inspection Chev 3 tonner Oct 1954 Fat being towed Sept 1953 3 tonner NZ26493 May 1953 Chev in the creek 1962 NZ26479 May, 1953 1941 Ford Fire Tender 1967 May I say here that I salute the New Zealand Armed Forces for maintaining some very old vehicles that had probably seen some pretty severe service ranging from perhaps North Africa to Italy to perhaps even the final battles in Mid Western Europe. I was particularly taken by the 41 Ford Fire Tender that was 26 years old when the photo was taken and it looks as new.

seeing the last pic of the jailbar Ford ambulance reminds me of a similar wagon I owned 30 years ago which was the same model with a wooden framed 6 seat heavy recon car body on similar to a station wagon. It was the same as the Aussie Chev heavy recon SW but a Ford. Sadly no pics though

Using my most powerful magnifying glass, I can at least tell you the following. Top line left: Nof? expires 5-2-55 B vehicle inspection report. Drivers name: Phipps. Beyond that, it goes on to an inspection report of various functional parts of the vehicle. On the left, is a section devoted to the engine ie; lubrication system, fuel system etc. etc. Then the front axle, still on the left side of the photo which covers stub axles, road wheels, tyres etc. Center column covers gearbox, foot brake, handbrake, axles/hubs/tyres rear/ The right hand column covers a bit more of the normal stuff plus a general evaluation of the "condition" of the vehicle and the state of a few minor accessories. It was inspected by a SGT Jones as near as I can read it on 9 August 1954. From what I can determine from the photo and the accompanying text, it appears to be some kind of annual inspection of not only the basic vehicle but all of it's kit, which in this case seems to be to remove all removable items (seats/spare tyre/POL carriers etc.) so everything can be inspected. Beyond that, I cannot say. Nice pic though if I say so myself. Bill

Did anyone notice the body on the GS 3 tonner NZ 26493 ?
It looks like it is a longer version of the C8AX body , built by the NZ Govt. railways workshops during 1943 . A friend in NZ mentioned that C8AX's were still in service in the army as late as 1968 . Old vehicles , both mil and civilian , were kept in service in NZ , because of the high replacement costs .
