Default MV’s on the Road

While heading out to Kelowna BC a week ago last Wednesday, we spotted a white, low bed transport with two 2.5 tons on board headed East, just inside the Saskatchewan border. On the return trip yesterday, a similar transport was headed west, just outside of Swift Current with one of those large 5+ ton cargo truck, forward box style crew cab vehicles on board.

Also noticed the camp in Vernon was very busy and they have a Lynx on display done up as a UN vehicle.

Default New CF Fire Trucks

Before I forget. We also heard a radio report while on the road that CFB Shilo has received a brand new fire truck for their fleet. I think they said it was one of nine purchased by the Defence Department for various bases across Canada. Not sure it these are being added to the existing fleet of fire fighting equipment, or to replace older equipment coming out of service.

Movement of MLVWs can be one of several things. The new Mack (volvo/renault) trucks are starting to show up at the bases for the regular force, so it could be the MLVWs are heading to a federal prison for dismantling. Shilo sends theirs to Ontario...not sure if it is the same for Alberta. Otherwise it could be movements of vehicles after the militia summer concentrations, or just regular vehicle movement orders being fulfilled. The HLVW could also be one of the above, although they have been sold in the past rather than dismantled.

The new firetruck in Shilo is partly due to the new multistory (called apartments in the civilian world) PMQs. Not sure if it replaces an existing truck, but they only have parking for so many of them in the firehall. There is something about a Manitoba winter that precludes parking fire trucks outside.
