Default chevrolet 216 crank

I am just rebuilding an engine for my Wire5 truck , and I am taking bolts from a post war 216 engine , but now discover that the crankshaft would fit the wartime splash engine , has anybody ever tried to put a pressure lube con rod crank in a wartime block ? Of course you would have to block the oil feed to the 6 sprayers.

Default Interesting Idea

Hi Maurice

That is a really interesting thought, the first thought is are the oil passages to the crank large enough? The next question is what other parts are dependent on the oil fog inside the engine from the spray for connecting rods?

I've got several different 1950s hot rod books on the stove bolt six, will take a look to see if they say anything on such a conversion.

Cheers Phil

Default

The bearings are the same , even the con rod bearings in the post war engine have the oil hole for the scoops in them , only early wartime con rods have casted in Bearings , width of wartime con rods are the same as the post war ones , to me the only difference is the by pass valve on the side of the block which directs a bit of the remaining oil to the rocker part of the engine , I have seen a lot of worn out rocker shafts on the splash lubrication engine , but never on a post war pressure engine In my C15 11cab , the original engine copes fine with it , but in my CGT it really has to work hard with limber and 25 PR on tow .
