They Continue to Fade ...
D. EARL McCULLOUGH
May 29, 1920 - July 2, 2004 WWII VETERAN who prepared the D-Day Maps CWO (RSM) CDN ARMY MAPPING & CHARTING ESTABLISHMENT (Ret.) One of the "YACHT CLUB BOYS", Earl sailed to the War in Europe in Jan. 1940 on the first boatload of soldiers to head for Britain on a converted cruise ship and remained in the army until 1972. After retiring from the Canadian Forces, he supervised the survey work for the rebuilding of the Alaska Highway. He was also the first non-commissioned Officer to teach an academic subject (photogrammetry) at RMC. Predeceased by his wife Christine (Turner) and Grand-daughter Chantal. He is survived by his 3 children Bill (Norma), Janet (Jacques) and Valerie (Ray); 8 Grand-children William, Karen (Derek), Debbie (Lyle), Kevin (Amy), Angela (Chris), Julie, Melanie and Kristin; 4 Great-Grandchildren Virginia (O'Neil), Dylan, Jacob and Daniel and 1 Great-Great-Grandson Riley. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 2pm at Capital Memorial Gardens, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Nepean, Ontario; A reception for friends & family will follow the service. Those wishing to do so, may make a donation in his name to The Perly-Rideau Veterans Home, 1700 Russell Road, Ottawa, Ontario or to the Alzheimer's Society, at the same address. "... I should have noted that I knew Earl and the McCullough family. I was best man at his son's wedding back in '68.
I will be attending the memorial service and will be wearing blazer with medals. Every veteran should be honoured. |
