oil seals

HELLO ALL OUT THERE
Can anyone tell me the part numbers for chev front axle inner oil seal and the prop shaft to diff oil seal also would like to aquire the parts book for c30 c60 .

Hi Vic

The seals are all available as modern seal equivalents. Both Bob Carriere and I have purchased seals within the last year for our respective trucks.

To start with run a search of the forum if you have not already done so, on the word “seal” you will get some useful background information.

As to the seal part numbers you will need to give us the year and size joint (5” or 6”) of the C30 and C60 it will help in identify correct seals.

Don’t know if they have outlets in the UK but I’ve had very good luck finding seals and bearings at http://www.motionindustries.com/moti...p/mi/index.jsp

As to parts book I gotten excellent reproductions of the parts book from Alex Blair http://www.dana-nield.com/d32/blair/...7/Default.aspx , though there also have been some recently on E-Bay.

Thanks for the reply its our C30 and has the 5inch joint and is 1943 something ive noticed thats differnt is the swivel joint its not the same as in the workshop manual at all have you come across a differnt type . regards vic uk.

Thanks for info they sure have some stuff looks a good bet to try but going to try nearer home first for these seals we can get them made here but will try dirk leegwater first, been using my ferguson today around the school where i work great little tractors. regards vic uk.

Hi Vic

Too bad you are so far away from Ottawa.

I have had very good luck dealing with an industrial bearing/seal outlet.... it seems that in 99% of the cases if you can give them inside and outside diameter of the seals they can trace them down using the search engine on computers.

Do not expect the modern seals to be as heavy duty made os the old ones..... but I would wager that the neopren seals of today are superior to the old leather ones.... even NOS old seals may be too dried up and could not be made pliable again. I beleive that Dirk may have original seals wrapped air tight and they may have survived better.

If you can ID the exact seals yo are looking for I may be able to give you the make and number of a modern counter part. I am rebuilding a C15a with a two speed t-case....again ALL modern bearings and seals were obtained by meauring and shopping by size..... amazing how many Ford parts found there way on a poor little Chebby truck.

Many thanks for the reply it would be a great help to get the modern part numbers ill get the measurments later today we need three seals . two for the front axle thats the inner ones and one for the diff to prop shaft . ill send sizes in next mail. we wondered about the leather being any good in the NOS i bought a petrol pump kit NOS from nordian here some years back and the petrol went straight through the diafram. it seemed to melt it

The seal for the differentail prop shaft.... you mean where the yoke for the U-joint connects to the axel..... I beleive we call them Pinion seals here in Hawmawreeka....

Now which is the other one for the front axle....... the big 6 inch one inside the brake drum or the small one that fits where the 5" separation joint is....

Think I have a picture of the small one..... let me see

Yes thats the one nearest the axle joint the smaller of the two i have sent dirk an email but could not give him a part numberthe one you decribe as a pinnion seal is also the one i need what lovely clean hands you have wish i could keep mine like that you should advertise for a cleaning product. you would make a fortune. regards vic . uk.

We have been trying to break him of the habit,but it is entertaining to watch him at our ROT(Rusty Old Trucks) meetings at Gracie's Bar and Grill....
He keeps wanting to practice his art on the serving wenches...

So thats how you keep them clean. dont think ill try that method myself. the diff seal is called pinion flange seal will try dirk for that also. perhaps we should see who has the nicest hands on the forum.thats the hands of those that do any form of work of course. regards vic uk

I have an AMERICAN ROAD MAP that also covers CANADA and enjoy finding places with interesting names like HAWMAWREEKA but cannot find that it sounds like an indian name so where is it come to think of it i cant find HAMMOND eitherthis map does not have an index for CANADA

To Vic..... yes they were cleaned becuased I was following order from the wife.... who says you can use my camera but NOT with your filty greasy fingers...slurp slurp.....

..and you will not find beautiful downtown Hammond on the usual map... it's a secret...... pop. 350 after church on Sunday.... Hammond is located just a slide due East of Ottawa...about 50 km and I travel each day to make money to pay for my CMP obsession......

I found subtitute, with Phil Waterman's help, from Chicago Rawhide for about $12 CDN. Will post #number on a later post...

Will also check out the modern numbers for the pinion seals as I am installing two for my axles.

You are lucky to be so close to Dirk's massive inventory.

Please note that in all cases so far, the replacement seals, although well made of modern neoprene, are not has sturdy in construction as the old original NOS...... but I am told that the neoprene has a long shelf and installed life... less prone to loosing its flexibility especially on a vehicle drive only occasionaly.

Only time will tell....... I do not expect that my truck after ALL care as been taken will not drip and leak....... just within reason!!!

Have you ever tried to contact DIRK. i dont seen to be able to get him at all i have asked about the seals and asked him to confirm wheather he has recieved my e mail but got no response perhaps he is just very busy so will give it a while longer keep up the clean hands . im trying to catch up wore gloves while removing rear hub this morning . very cloudy dull and cold here.
