Default Mystery pintle

Your pintle is very similar to a pintle that I have also been unable to identify. Mine are stamped B2536 and I believe this is a British number. There are also"&" stamping: perhaps a variety of proof mark. The spacing is 2-5/8" for the gun. The pintle shaft is that same as is seen on American gun pintle sand tripod mounts. Mine were packaged in 1950 and the part number was prefixed LV? Partially obscured.

The Swiss modified the universal carrier model T16 by installing a removable framework to support a canvas cover. The overhead frame brackets were fixed to the hull, and appear quite similar if not identical to the bracket portion of the item you have.

Hi guys,

I saw a photo of the Swiss canvas frame bases Michael was talking about. They're an exact match for this base. Nice dig Michael!

I took the pintle/MG mount part out of the base to see what it looks like in comparison to Brian's. Brian's is nicely machined and has the qualities of a proper pintle, whereas this one is very crude. There aren't any markings I that I can find, and the shaft has "nubs" welded on for (I suspect) adding diameter to the shaft so it would fit better in the base.

I still wonder though if it was a real mount adapted for this base, or a home made jobber.

Thanks for your input guys!

Chuck
