Can you send another photo but one that shows more of what it is mounted on as I am trying to find it in the Identification List.

Heres a few photos, i can get clearer ones if needed tommorrow as its pitch black in the barn. Its on the main gun body on the right side (standing behind it) just under the ID plate. The other user was right... if i slide it there is a hole underneath.. These photos taken from the top side, barrel goes directly out infront of me. You can just see the extractor claw release external lever in these photos.

Is it simply to remove the spindle? what do the letters mean?

Sure, if you can get further photos that would be great.

I have found the item in the line drawings but it appears not to have been documented in the Identification List.

Thats interesting, But if its just a cover then why not be plain and look like a cover..? why all the holes , letters, and the slot?

From the handbook.
The right side, near the front and at the bottom, is bored and bushed to form a bearing for an outer releasing lever for the extractor, and with two holes, the front one to facilitate removing the extractor spindle, the rear one to admit a closing spring setting tool and removal of the crank shaft; the two holes are closed by a cover secured to the casing by two screws which enter a slot in the cover; the cover has lateral movement to expose the holes.

I wonder if your gun is from a non English speaking user and the M and S stand for that.

A wild guess would be 'Maintenance' and 'Service' positions for the cover plate.
Though the letters are not mentioned in the handbook surely the overhaul manual will reference them.

We are getting there, The gun is Canadian, I have five bofors guns and one has a plaque stating made in Canada, and this one has the cover as well. I have a manual, I will try to find it again in the manual now I have an idea what to look for...

found it, looks like its just a slide cover....
On a slight side line...
That handbook Ive got is missing a few of the coloured plates at the rear,
plates 2 to 5, 8, 9, and 43. Id be happy to pay for copies, A large photocopier or even a photo of each missing plate would be great.
Brad

can you help me out with copies Adrian?
