Nice photo's fellas. Like the homemade Tankette.
But do correct me if I'm wrong, The shots with the Humber Pigs will be British Troops.
Rich.

Default Canadians and others in Cyprus

I had to scroll down a long way to find Canadians and a neat 1964 Quebec license plate on a 1953 M38A1. From the shoulder flash, those guys look like Vandoos, from the Royal 22nd Regiment in Quebec City or Valcartier. The rest of the shots are British and local troops.

Is this an improvised armoured vehicle on a Land Rover? Notice the forward sloping windshield armour and exposed welds?

Default Cyprus photos

Thank you Mariano for these interesting photos. I have 4 comments: Firstly, do you have a date for these photos.
Secondly to Richard: was the armoured 1-ton Humber truck commonly called a "Pig" before the up-armouring which was done later I presume for Northern Ireland patrols?
Thirdly: the 1953 Canadian Ford M38A1 has an early CFR number of 53-32220. This number leads credence to my belief the last 5 digits of the CFR number for the 1953 M38A1 jeeps followed sequentially from the end of the 5 digit series for the approximately 2165 1952 M38 that were produced. (Incidently the 53 means the year it was inspected, the next 3 is the class of vehicle in this case the 1/4-ton jeep, and the final 4 digits are individual number assigned to this particular vehicle).
Finally, the use of the Quebec licence plate is interesting. Does the "G" perhaps mean a government vehicle?
... Brian

Terry, I agree with you that the Home made Armoured car is a Landy, you can see the back of the bonnet and the mudguard, which are original.
Brian, the original, pre-Pig Armoured Humber was not known as a Pig, it had no name at all other than Humber One Ton FV1600 CT.
Don't think the name Pig was ever officially given, it just stuck around....

Life had some great photographers did'nt they.
Have seen some of these before, but feel free to keep them coming.
Rich.

Correct. Before DND started to issue 'their' plate they used provincial plates which, for the most part, had a 'G' prefix for 'Government'. I believe that one province may have used 'F' for Federal government but would not swear to this.

We had Mk 1 armoured Humber trucks in Northern Ireland before they were up-armoured and they were certainly known as Pigs then (1970).
