Default BB7064 retaining ring missing from Transmission?

I am assembling a carrier transmission and note that the manual shows this little retaining clip (BB7064) on the output shaft behind the bearing. My shaft has the cut for the clip, but I cannot locate the clip. I took the transmission apart a while ago. I checked my box of transmission parts at home, and no clips there either, which leads me to ask: Does the carrier even use this clip? It would look to me like the coupling gear would hold the rear bearing in place on the shaft.

Rob, I suspect you are right.
That shaft was originally made for an enclosed driveshaft set up.
The carrier gear is an adaption. As I recall the picture in the book shows some kind of tin shield as well.(that is not used in a carrier)
The bearing outer is held forward by the 6 bolt flange ring thing.
The shaft is held back by the coupling gear as you say. The thick washer sits into a rebate in the gear. I doubt it was designed to clamp against said circlip. There is ample clearance between the washer and the shaft end (without a circlip in there as well)
Leave (the one you never had) out!

That's how I see it.

Concur, thank Lynn. I would hate to install the pack and then find the clip on the workbench. As it is, yesterday I found the large 4 hole washer that goes on the flywheel. Problem is I installed the clutch on the flywheel the day before. The large washer retains the dowels on the flywheel. Mind you, if you wanted to remove a flywheel dowel, they will almost be as if they are machined as part of the crank. Leave the washer off and for sure they will work loose and be rattling round the pressure plate.
