Default Loyd carrier

Hi there!

Well i'm currently helping a mate with his restoration of a Loyd carrier. It is one of a batch of 50 battery slave start carriers that arrived in 1942.

It is stripped right down to the bare chassie at the moment. With sand blasting about to start and working out what needs replacing and or repairing.

I will post photos as we progress...

Now how many still servive out there and if any of the forum members have them... in what ever condition.

As far as Australia we know of the remains of one in WA, 2 at Tamworth NSW, 1 at the RAAC museum that has been restored as a display vehicle only and not a goer and of cause our one.

And finaly for those of you who don't know what 1 looks like here is a photo.

Phil...

Thanks Stefan!

I will pass that onto the mate... and i'll bet there will be the odd question along the way as it came as a load of parts so will be interesting when it comes to putting it back together.

Phil...

Default Another Loyd in Holland...

Hi Phil,

a quick message to say there's another Loyd in Holland.

It's a MARK I addapted for the role of 2-pdr. gun tractor.

Restoration hasn't started yet but preparations are taken at the moment to start it all up.

I'm still looking for two CAV headlights by the way.

the registration of the Loyd is:

Patent No. 529353

TRACTOR
ANTI-TANK
MARK I
WD No. T 136474

WAR DEPT 136474
CONYTRACT No. 294 / T / 11245
SPECIFICATION No. MARK I
VEHICLE No. M.B.W. 1474
ENGINE No. FORD 6933176

Any info on manufacturing date, company of maybe even the historie (where it was in service) would be highly recommended.
It was found in Norway and brought to Holland in 1993.

greetings and good luck with your restoration. If you need any info let me know.

*Jeff!
Well looked through some of my books and could not find anything quite like it. Just guessing that it could be a pommy manufactured modified coppy of the US jeep trailer.

Hi there mate... well I will take a happy snap and post it in the next day or so. But I can tell you it has the doors and mirrors on it. BTW I hope you are having a fun time up there in the sticks!

Hi Phill,

there's another slave battery in New Zealand. This photo was taken at the NZ Army Museum at Waiouru. It's a good runner. The driver told me he managed to do 60 km/h with this one.

good luck with your restoration. If you need any pics of parts or info, let me know. I still have all the orignals parts.

greetings,

Roland

Actually, it is the Canuck version, a.k.a. the Canadian 10 CWT G. S. Trailer.

Phil T69203 incase you may be interested was one of 563 Tracked, Starting and Charging Loyds built to contract no. T2415. The contracxt started on the 12th June 1941 and would have been completed by Jan/Feb 1942 although I don't have the exact date. This batch was built by Loyds and was for the No.1 and No.2 MkIs. First number in the batch was T69141 so T69203 is not far from that.
Hope this is of interest.

Nigel
