Default WLC heads

Check the number that is stamped on the right side of the heads, that will be the compression ratio. There will be a 5 or 6 stamped in the lower part of the head.
5's can be converted to 6 by shaving .120 off the bottom, and watch the valve clearance. Use the copper head gaskets not the Teflon as they are too thick and will lower the compression ratio.
WLC and WLA bikes came with # 5 heads.

Default wanted 42 WLC head

If you go to a #6 head it will be a bugger to start and have a short engine life. Copper gaskets can be hard to get a good seal .

George,

Beware of the reproduction heads - I understand those made in Europe are ok but the Indian parts look good but are porous & laminated castings. I have an extra OEM 5 rear head that has been milled .060 to clean it up. PM if you are interested.
I was told by experienced HD mechanics that the aluminum heads used the asbestos fibre gaskets & the iron heads used the copper gaskets. It seems it is a heat transfer situation. I used NOS fibre gaskets with good success.

Jack

Default wanted head wlc

I'll check with my mechanic The copper gaskets won't crush down as much as the asbestos ones so it might match my front new head as it is not milled if I use a copper gasket at the back and a asbestos gasket at the front . It is easier to get a good seal with the asbestos gasket than the copper ,
