When you say GMC refuellers, do you mean US GMC CCKW or Canadian GMC C60X? There is a pic of both together in This thread.

Hi Tony and Cliff,
I was particularly looking at the US GMC 6X6 CCKW refueller that would have seen service in Australia with either the US or Australian forces. Did any serve with the RAAF?, were any the soft top type cab?. I have come across one in my travels and wanted to do some reaserch but I can only find very little on aircraft refuellers let alone a soft top type US GMC 6X6. I was hoping to get some pic's to verify that it's not just a post war rebuild and what was on the back. I am hoping to get back in two weeks to have another look and maybe find a vehicle no.. Then I will post some pictures for all to see. Thanks for your help.

As requested, I send you a picture of a GMC "GAZOLINE" or refueller which belong to a french military association in PARIS
This kind of GMC were used in THE RED BALL EXPRESS from NORMANDY to the first line.

In an other post I will send you a picture of a GMC used on AIRPORT

This is the second picture of a GMC used only on airport of US AIR FORCE. This truck was seen à a meeting in North of France two weeks agao

Heres a photo of refuellers taken at Torokina, Bougainville. 1945. Although the fellas standing around are Australian, I am not sure whether the vehicles were US army operated.

The GMC 'tanker' you are talking about...is it a yellow 6x6 with tank in situ, looked similar to Serge's photo and was it listed on ebay some months back?

I seriously looked at buying this truck but was put off by the transport costs to Western Australia. This GMC would be a wonderful exhibit when restored. Take your time and do some research into the truck and list what is missing and how much it will cost to replace. I spent quite some time looking and comparing the photos of the tanker and found that there was quite a bit missing. That does not mean that these parts cannot be found on the farm or surrounding area. Find out its ownership history and work your way back to see if parts are still lying around. If not you will have to source them from the US. Very expensive.

Good luck with the GMC and if you buy it, post heaps of photos.

During there life, a great number of GMC have been rebuilded in REME of various countries (as DODGE WC) and ofen the parts have been mixed. I would like to note that there is no hook at the rear frame of GASOLINE as showed in the following pic

Only on that particular truck. The US WW2 ones normally had them on as they were standard off the production line cab and chassis with the specialist fuel body added.

This truck is probably a post war French Army rebuild.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you to all those who have posted pictures. Please view the pictures of the vehicle in question which I have attached and appear below.
After closer inspection the vehicle is a CCKW 353 A2 with a shortend C60X refuelling body attached. The refuelling body is in fairly good condition complete with rear hose reels but is missing front pumps and has been shortened at the front by way of the removal of the front compartment. The chassis on the CCKW looks to have been lengthened and reinforced by way of an inverted truss welded on.

Hi Tommy,
It's most likely to be split up with the Tanker portion going back on it's proper home - a C60X, the rest is to be rebuilt as it was originally - a CCKW 353 A2(lwb cargo).
You need to bear in mind the tanker was added to this CCKW post war most likely because the original C60X was too worn out or broken to fix.

It's funny this thread should appear... Yesterday (6th Jan) while driving home from Sydney, somewhere along the dual carriageway of the Hume Hwy, the ever-observant Jo (Wife, finance minister and spotter of rusty stuff) exclaimed "!!!!!!!"
Translation: "Look, Darling, a rusty old Truck!"
To which I replied "Yeah! Waitlli havealook on MLU enweel beeablle to werkowt hoositis fer sure!"
And Lo & Behold, T-Daahhhh! there it is!
(Well, I assume it's the same one???)
Then she said... ""I love you darling, you are the best! Lets go home & do it on the Blitz.!"

OK so I made some of this up...
But, was it the same truck we spotted yesterday on the hume (Somewhere around Marulan from memory)??

Hi Howard,
The GMC is fairly complete - missing fuel tank, right step, spare wheel holder. It does have some floor rust, a little in the right guard, and some where the floor meets the side panel on the drivers side. I will also need another windscreen frame as the original has rusted through where the hand made roof was joined on.

The truck was moved to Londonderry - 50k west of Sydney, to start the resto. I need a friends crane to swap the tanker body out with an original cargo to suit the GMC. I hope to run the motor up on the weekend. I can't drive it as the brakes have ceased to work though I may risk a little drive as the hand brake still works ok

.

The reason behind asking about the M211 is that I'm after a post war military truck suitable for a wrecker body to use as a recovery&yard crane. I origanaly had a later M series truck in mind but I saw your pictures and began to wonder....... it's a shame to see it just sitting there. The next question is it for sale?.

This is the truck sold at the Jim Jardine Auction at Nimmitabel NSW last year. I was told where it was about 3 weeks ago and given some photo's. Good luck with it Rick
