new 9.00-16 tyres for WD split rim wheels

I have some Petlas NT3 tyres 900 x16 on my Morris and fitted without problems on my rims . I had them from John Gray go brought them over to Tanks in Town meeting last September.

When looking for tyres for my HUP I went to John Grey and purchased 5 new 900 x 16 bar grips. Anyone who has seen my vehicle, might remember that it had 3 CMP rims and 1 Morris rim. There are obvious differences with these rims and getting the old tyres off of the Morris rims proved to be a right pain and in the end I burnt them off, where as, with the CMP rims, the tyres were less of a problem. Putting the 900 x 16 back on wasn't a problem as long as the surfaces were clean and I used lots of tyre lubricant. The tyres were well lubricated before assembly then the wheels were assembled, with new flaps and again well lubricated, then the tyres blown up to 60 PSI. The CMP rims, the tyre bead popped into place at this pressure, with the Morris rims it took a little more pressure but they too popped on.

I have bought the Malhotra 9.00 x 16 tyres for my MCC C8 from John Grey 2 years ago and drove close to 2500 miles on them since trough all kinds of terrain and conditions.
No problems whatsoever with these, they do what they are supposed to do and keep inflated.

"Finally some good news on the tyre project, We anticipate production to happen this month, Finally!! all being well tyres will be in the UK in the spring. i will upload some pictures once they have been produced."

Barry has had 9.00-16 tyres made to start with.

It has recent been reported by Barry Ring that he anticipates a production run of these tires to happen very soon and arrival in the UK after that.

I presume the tyres are made in the Far East - India or China (we've seen pictures of Chinese-made Trak Grip pattern tyres here on MLU, of which one would have to order a minimum of one container load), so I suggest to make arrangements with Barry Ring before they are shipped to the UK. Shipping them directly from China to NA may be the best approach.

The rating on them says 1250 kgs @ 350 kpa. In Canadian, that translates to 2755 pounds at 50 psi.

Anyone looking for 10.50-16 tyres, BKT make them in a road type pattern. Very useful speed and load rating, these are not low speed implement tyres. Haven’t found a distributor for them yet, tough

They 9.00-16 size has a much lower speed rating, strangely.

I was looking at the "Dunlop Trak Grip Blackwall 900x16" , which looks pretty close to the wartime Michelin tread also seen on British vehicles. (Egbert has 2 on his Dodge)

the PDF also includes the actual Michelin tyre, but it seems it wasn't available at the time. I wonder if it's since been reproduced, as France40 vehicles have them fitted to some of their restored vehicles.

As I read it, the document advises to avoid using tyres which are long out of production, including those Michelins.

The second picture you posted was a similar tread apparently sold by Vrakking in The Netherlands, but seems to be no longer available from them. Would be interested to learn if they were made recently.

The Michelins were also seen on period pictures of early 3 ton 6x4 lorries (Guy, Leyland), on some RAF Fordsons and at least one Bedford MW. And I have also seen them fitted to monument 25pounders. Indeed it was also seen (and produced) post-war, on Panhard EBL's for instance, but my question remains.....was there a recent production run since the creation of the French PDF document? or are all recently restored wartime french vehicles fitted with old production tyres? Does anyone know?

Yes, it's a screendump from the PDF you posted and I also looked on the Vrakking site. Looks like a nice tyre to me, and price at the time was also reasonable! Maybe there is a nice Black friday deal to be had ;-)

One of the tyres mentioned in the French overview is the Michelin XY 9.00-16 tyre with road tread. It is no longer made new but good second hand / NOS examples can be found. Advantages of this tyre are good handling on roads, and a slightly larger diameter than bar grips which helps with fuel economy.

And to my surprise, they fit on WD divided rims without having to modify the rim or tyre! No fitting tricks or extra tyre soap needed, they slip right in.

Not a 9.00-16, but it may be good to know that the Mitas 10.50-16 tyres do not fit the split rim. The tyre fitting shop gave it a try but they told me it will not go on.

So I am now looking for someone who can machine the rim to reduce the diameter.

I don't see any lubricant on those tires... I've used tire lubricant and have had success even with very tight tires.
