Hello Philip,

Interesting project, is it a Ford or Chevrolet and can you share photos of it?

There is an FGT in Belgium restored from scratch by Stijn Van Haverbeke, maybe he made drawings.

Hi Hanno ,
Thanks for your intrest in my project ,
I bought my first gun tractor (Ford ) about 15 years ago , not knowing what I'd achieved , with lots of work to be done. Intend to restore it anyway.
Several weeks ago I bought a second truck , a Chevrolet gun tractor , cab 13 , engine , drivetrain and chassis are in fair state, photos will follow.

Default Ford/Chev CMP FAT-4 with #13 Cab

Hi Phil,

God............I wish I could find one of these. I could give it a really good home.

Very nice find - I'm envious.

Nice project

It does not look like an old worn-out CGT which was cut down as a breakdown truck. What happened to the FAT body?

Hi Hanno ,
It's not realy that worn out , restoration of chassis and drive train has been done by the previous owner , who had to let go (due to his age and health) , FAT body must have been removed somewhere in the past to convert it to a breakdown truck , unfortunately no traces of these bodies over here , all scrapped I guess.

Philip,

No blueprints that I know of, but I posted a drawing in this thread. Maybe there are more out there - who has access to the AEDB Design Records?

HTH,
Hanno

Default Building a FAT body

Look what I had to work with, spent a day at the Newtonville wrecking yard measured up real FAT.

Thanks Walde

...I have heard few days ago, from a guy who has a nice and complete cab 12 CGT, that the sections (blue rectangled) of the cab 12 and cab 13 rear bodies are identical, all the boxes, doors etc., could anyone confirm that, please? It would be than much more easier to rebuild the missing parts for my cab 13. rear body, if it could be just copied from the nice one that is so close...

BTW - great base for the FAT, congrats!

Frankie

Default fat body

iirc there is one of these sitting out at McLean auto wrecker near Milton Ontario. It has been the subject of a lot of photographers who take pictures in the old yard. https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...YYfHDaWCipWVLg

Default More of the FGT

I found a link to a large number of photographs of reasonable size including some of the FGT and other CMPs here, particularly from about the 50% mark.

Loads of interesting pics distracting from finding the FGT!

Here's one pic of it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/437091...sautowreckers/

Others can be found from roughly this page onward as Keith mentioned: https://www.flickr.com/groups/mclean...rs/pool/page11

Default Question

The bigger question is: Is it still there or has someone rescued it?

I got the last 12 cab FAT out of there but there was a 13 cab FAT there. It's just a cab and chassis but they belong to Stew Robertson if anyone is interested. There are a few other CMPs but you may need a chainsaw to get what's left of them out.

Default CMPs

Thanks for the update Ian and good to hear the FGT was rescued. Having looked through all of the photos in that link from various photographers it was amazing to see how many were just the same as each other and how few had the creative powers to recognise and photograph the CMPs, the gems of that collection.

In fairness there are some worthy images amongst the dross. Collection just needs a massive cull.

OK rusty old truck lovers, now let's get back to topic: Frankie wondered if the rear section of the FAT bodies are identical?

As far as I can tell - based on observation - is that the rear sections are indeed the same. Can anyone confirm?

A very interesting project. Is the rear the same as on a 12cab FGT? I am in the process of hopefully buying a very, very rusty one and if I get it any drawings would be a real help.

I also consider that rear body but, the cost and transport was too much.
