3" or 81mm mortar
Canadians used the 3" mortar in WWII ,as I read, but did units , aside from the special service force, also use the 81mm mortar or did they switch post war?

81mm
I believe the conversion to the 81mm came during the Korean War. Prior to that I trained on the 3".

MORTAR CARRIER
Hi Art,
thats what I am thinking. My Carrier has the rear deck converted to carry a mortar, but I am sure it is a post war conversion. So an 81mm wouldn't be wrong though I would have to pass on the WWII markings for Korean. The baseplate for the 81mm was rectangular, was the 3" base round or squarish? As the base plate storage is configured for a round plate. Sean

round baseplate
Snowtractor; It would seem that you have the attachments for an even later model of the 81mm. The M29 had a circular baseplate and I believe came into service in the late 50s or early 60s.

M-29
curiouser and curiouser... Thanks Art, appreciate it. For those interested I am slowly aquiring kit for my 1944 MkII but at the current cost of collectibles I don't want to spend all the future diaper money on non needed items. The stowage for the mortar is quite tidy I would hate to cut it all off just to backdate it to a style that there are plenty of. Aside from that mod it appears to be a perfect Welsh Stowage setup. I have a bead on an 81mm mortar , but it is an earlier version, though I have seen the M29 round base plates sell on Ebay on occasion. Wouldn't be perfect but would satisfy 95% of the curious, hmm. Anyone know of a M29 that requires an armoured motorised lodging?
