Default Valve Clearances T16 Mercury engine

Looking through my TM on the T16 I see that it recommends inlet at 10 to 12 thou and exhaust at 14 to 16 . Before I go to the effort of doing this I wonder whether anyone has any comments on these clearances given modern fuels and whether that may effect these. Also, I need a few engine bits and bobs, studs, head bolts, a valve , gaskets, rings etc. Can anyone make an recommendations of suppliers either here in the UK or abroad? thx chaps

Andrew,

I'd try nordianservices.com for advice and spares. The V8 in my F15A was reconditioned by them and it is one of the sweetest running ones around, or so I have been told.

HTH,
Hanno

Don't know them, never dealt with them, but it wasn't hard to do a Google search to find their phone number.

thanks Guys. They have certainly been around as V8 specialists for ever. However, I cannot ever get hold of the chap, which is a bit frustrating if one is trying to complete a job. Is there anyone else we know in the UK?

Nordian are the cheapest in the UK if not there are a plethora of firms in the US who are very good. also if you know the exact engine model there is even Ebay ! The only other main firm in the UK that i know of is Belcher engineering......however i was quoted £50 + VAT for a single head gasket where as Nordian were quoting 75 quid (ish) for an entire gasket set including two head gaskets..... take from that what you will but i wont be going back there.. I heard (by rumour) that Belcher get their stock from Macs in the US.

Nordian have always responded to my emails bud.

also for info etc i recommend you buy this book....it is very good indeed

also the ford v8 1939 - 1946 forum is very good

Andrew,

Try contacting Bob Froch in East Anglia, I cannot recollect if he is in Norfolk or Suffolk). He is in to Ford V8, and think he has a lot to do with Hot Rods. he helped me out with a couple of V8 parts when I was working on a WOT6. I will PM you a phone number.

regards, Richard
