Default Repro 1 CACR titles

I am posting this again to get as much exposure as possible to this title. More repro. Please spread the word on these. Apparently the news of these types of titles being reprod is not getting out. The Film and Photo was sold for over $130 US. They were not good.
Now, the 1 Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment flashes, made in a similar style to the Film and Photo and the Maple Leaf Shows that were repros, make an appearance. Note that only scarce Canadian shoulder titles made in this pattern are showing up. Odd coincidence isn't it????

Default Genuine Shoulder titles!!

Coincidentally, I photographed a very large and comprehensive "veteran" collection on Sunday.

I nearly shat my pants when very casually a four foot roll of the "Bevo" type shoulder titles appeared. All in absolutely mint condition. And before anyone asks... No. They are not for sale.

Bill.

(trying to attach small pic for the first time... don't know if this going to work.)

Default Tilburg as HQ

On a more positive note: as the Kangaroos had a HQ set up in Tiilburg on November1, 1944, has anyone got any details on this as I live there and may try to get any then and now pictures?

Default That's easy

The two buildings at the far end are still there, although De Gruyter stopped trading years ago. I'll get a picture of the present situation next week or so.

Hi Rob;

HINT - The Regiment ("A" Sqn) was concentrated at Tilburg on 1 Nov 44, occuping a school. RHQ proper did not arrive in Tilburg until 2 Nov 44 and set up somewhere along the paved bank of the canal, where the vehicle park was moved to on 11 Nov 44. On 10 Nov 44, the HQ personnel moved into a school on Kloosterstraat, while "A" and "B" Sqn personnel stayed in the original school occupied by "A" Sqn on 1 Nov 44.

No address or street for the first school or exact location along the canal for the veh park (11 Nov onwards) or orderly room available. The only clue to the whereabouts of the orderly room, is that on (or after) 7 Nov, 123 LAD established themselves in a vacant flour warehouse 300 yards from the orderly room.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi Rob, if you can help to find some of these locations, I could bring along a Kangaroo vet and his son in May to view them!

Default Repro/FAKE patches

Hi Geoff
I looked at the guys other auctions, the US Eighth air force patch he is selling is also a fake,I have seen many, many originals and a number of fakes and this is definitely the latter.I have seen a lot of patches made in this way on the UK collectors market in recent years,I have an idea who is making them but I can't say for sure so it wouldn't really be fair to name names.

It is getting to the stage now that most militaria is faked to some degree.there used to be a seller on ebay, don't know if he's still trading, who produced such things as Battle of Britain pilots log books, signed photos, medal citations,US airborne groups etc and they were very good fakes.

It's a great shame but if people think they can get rich quick I guess they will do it.

On Kangaroos in Tilburg. I'll go and see the local history department of the city. Maybe they may be able to help.
And Hanno: sounds good, if you want to coeme down.
But I'll be quite active with some QOR veterans coming over and staying in Ede.
I had to give up Bussum Bridgehead weekend for this.

On the issue of fakes: nothing for contempt for con artists. But I make some repros, but usually mark them as being repro. On our last batch of Queen;s's Own Rifles we left out the litle comma in Queens, so our repros now can be marketed sa a rare and early WW2 misprinted badge!

Hey Matt,

I see nothing wrong with 'getting rich quick' (I wish I could do it!), but not at the expense of others! So far I've just received an acknowledgement of my complaint from Ebay UK. I'll bet this will go on until the auction's over. Bastard!

Default Repro/Fake

Hi Geoff and Rob
I'm not saying I have anything against reproductions of anything which is hard to find such as insignia or vehicle manuals but as a collector what I can't abide are those who knowingly reproduce or fake somthing and then pass it of as genuine,eg signing paperwork, naming a uniform, putting a group of medals together etc. these people don't care who they rip off, whether they are faking signed photos of Ringo Starr,an old master,or militaria.

So as I said there is nothing wrong at all in my opinon with reproducing somthing but there is everything wrong with faking somthing, lets face it without people like Rob many military vehicle owners(me included) would be up the creek as it were, but on the other hand if I were to buy a manual from Rob,write a drivers name and number along with his vehicle and unit on the cover and wipe my oily mits all over it,hey presto! a genuine ETO combat carried manual for a CMP worth God knows what on ebay.it's all about what the intentions are behind the reproduction.

I'll get off my soap box now!

Hi,

That is why I normally put my name (Groucho etc) and my catalogue book number on the back of each book that I make.

Possibly I will have to add a PC item on the inside cover as to state that this is a repro manual. But then a con man could loose the cover all together.

I have no problems with repros either... hell, you couldn't put together a uniform for many regiments were it not for repro badges! I have handled about six or seven repro 1CACR cap badges so far, and know how to tell the difference. Most I've given away to either old Kangaroos who long ago lost their originals or to family members of ex-Kangaroos who want some momento. Neither mind if it's a good repro.

Just don't try to pass it off as original. Some of us will know.

Speaking of such things, has anyone an original set of 31 Brigade green hourglass badges? They'd go awfully well with the original 1CACR flashes and 79AD flashes I have, for a mannequin at the next 1CACR reunion (the mannequin I have). The lads would appreciate it.

Gee.... , I never thought of that, I guess BD for that Size of mannequin would have to be pretty small indeed. I guess it wouldn't even be worth purchasing one of those new action figures in BD, since it would also be way to BIG for your mannequin, even though these figures are only 12" inches high, I guess the BD supplied would be HUGE, compared in Size to your manneqiun.

Lord have mercy on yore pore pore souls you old retrobates. You're both up Poop-Creek without a paddle now ... and I'm busily seasoning my frying pans for the disciplinary actions I'll inflict on the both of you old farts. Master Sunray first of course... he's near at hand, and if I had a frying pan in me wee bittie hands this minute, I would fling it across the room and knock him out on the couch. (Hmmmm ... he'd never snore again either ... good idea!!!!)

HBM-O ... do remember, I do have a set of keys for the car and it IS only a couple of hours from our door to yours ... one day .... well, just know that everytime theres a knock at your door it could be followed by the sounds of ringing between yore hairy old ears when you open the door.
