Default Chindit wireless sets the Australian connection

The Chindits were using Australian made Fs6 sets . I didn't know this but I did know that AWA had a contract for the FS6 set to supply to India.

"Communication between Rear Base at Agartala and the columns in the field was achieved using the RAF 1082/88 Wireless set. These sets were the standard wireless set of the Blenheim Bomber in WW2 and they gave the Chindits approximately 800 miles in range. For communication between columns whilst in Burma, the FS.6 radio set was used and was deemed a valuable piece of equipment. However, the type 21 radio sets used locally between platoons, proved to be next to useless. All code/cipher systems on Operation Longcloth were standard RAF 'one-time pads"

The write up on the Chindits mentions they used WS 21 for platoon to platoon communications. This scenario seems to me to be rather unlikely but anything is possible, the set was not ideal for lugging around on patrols , being heavy and really it was a Brigade level set , not meant for that type of platoon level situation . From what I have read, the set was a bit of a flop in its intended Brigade level role anyway. These sets are to be found in N.Z. for some reason, never seen one here in Aust.
