Valentine Duplex Drive
At dawn on 4 April, 1943, B and C Squadrons of 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards embarked on Operation Smash 1, a training operation for D-Day.
The objective was to simulate an attack on Studland Beach using Valentine Duplex Drive (DD) tanks. Because of bad weather, seven Valentine tanks were lost, drowning six of their crew.
