Clive:

Have you seen this Borden "survivor"? I believe I took it two years ago or thereabouts.

Al! The elusive "Meaford Ram"! It was discussed over the years on this forum and the old one (see Ram at Meaford for the most recent thread). Good to see some clear pictures of it - finally! Did you go through the trouble to note a map reference?

Thanks!
Hanno

Clive, see My G503 album > G104 > UK: Pirbright. The Ram pics came from Carl Brown.

The one below came from Pirbright ranges and has gone to Kevin Wheatcroft, together with a good turret from Imber Firs near Warminster, tracks etc.

Regards,
Hanno

I see you've included David Herbert's picture of CT-40892 already:
Quote:
Shop number 1112, Oct 1944, shown as a Cruiser, held by CRU.
Oct 1943, delivered from Cdn Mech Depot to Cdn Ord Depot (Borden)
Mid-1980s, shown while on a range in England.
Possibly now located at the Canadian War Museum.
You can delete "possibly" - believe it or not, it actually is located at the CWM since last summer!

Also, these two shots are of the same Ram II at Borden:

Hope this helps,
more later,

Default Borden Ram

Hanno:

This is not the elusive Meaford Ram. This one exists at CFB Borden on an area known as the West Grenade Range and is seperate from any of the Museum models currently held there. I have more photos on a disc and the CT # noted somewhere.

Erm, not a Ram expert but one has a gun weight , no machine gun turret and no hull side door and the other doesn't and does and does. Just an observation

Mea culpa! Human computer glitch in the brain. What I meant to say was these are different Ram tanks, but both are at Borden.

Thanks Sean!

Absolutely. With credit, or is that wrong?

Have you seen the west grenade range Ram before?

Hey Clive, if memory serves me right, the B.C. Dragoons have a Ram parked outside their Beatty Street Armoury in Vancouver.

Al, do I understand correctly there are two hulks to be found on the ranges on/around Base Borden? Below is a pic of the one I knew about. It is/was "lost" at some point in time. "T19" noted "it is not on the Main Ranges, it is to the west of the old M72 range, in the wood line east of the Bowl, just north of the range road about 400m. The tank is/was on the South side of the trees, facing the road."

Woudl love to see more pics and see the CT number of the one you posted above!

Thanks,
Hanno

Thanks Al, it's that typical shade of green which prompted my response. Clive noted it's in an "Unknown location"'; all I wanted to say it is in Borden.

"Unknown date, Ram recovered by the British Army (ATDU Bovington) from the Pirbright range"
Note: this picture is to be credited to John Gillman.

"Unknown date, Kangaroo remains at Pirbright"
Note: This picture was taken by Carl Brown at his workshop.

Thanks,

Hanno:

Having been "all over" Borden and Meaford (They are located about an hour apart) over the last 25 years I would have to say by the description that the Ram "pieces" you have illustrated are at Meaford. The "bush" looks more consistent with Meaford as well.

Part of the confusion could be that Meaford Range Control was run out of Borden at one time.

I can't find my notes on the Borden hulk but looking at the photo the CT # appears to be 42-1-669.
