F30 cwt questions
Hello to everyone and I hope everyone had a good Chirstmas.
Now to my question. It may already have been answerd in an other thread but did the first F30's use the Chev bango type axles. I know that the early 15cwt 4x4's did and I have seen clear pictures of them, including on the assembly line. The reason I'm asking is, I was given a book on the LRDG and in it the pictures of the Ford F30's they received in March of 1941 look like they have the Chevy axles front and rear. Can anyone confirm this. David? Thanks in advance. Slainte Don cwodbirnie@hotmail.com |

Axles
"Rzeppa design Universal Joint and axle shafts as fitted by Ford to the front of 4 x 4 Trucks were interchangeable with the G.M.-used Bendix-Weiss, but Ottawa suggested that both right- and left-assemblies of the same type be fitted rather than mix-and-match" ...in a letter of July 1940 in fact. It is very possible that F30S trucks used GM-McKinnon front axles in 1940 and will check further.
