Default Carrier info plates

I don't know much about these, but I have one at home at the moment (only on loan to me) from a LP2a carrier.

Are these rare, or pretty common? Obviously it identifies the number of the vehicle, i'll have to post the actual number that is on it tomorrow as I forgot it today.
