Hi Radek,
Just gone down to my workshop at checked the manuals. In the wartime military K3 book, the gearbox and axle were filled with SAE 140 gear oil. That may be a bit heavy ( or thick ) for the temperatures in your country. Also looked at a 1947 civilian book for the Austin K4 and for Overseas use, in colder climates, the gearbox has SAE 90 gear oil and the rear axle has EP90 or Hypoid 90 gear oil. Hope this is of help to you.

In my experience of several types of Austins, I would go for the Overseas / Cold Climate recomendations in the K4 manual , ie; gearbox > SAE90 and r/axle > EP90 or Hypoid 90 best regards

I would assume you also have to take into account if their are any metals in the axle which may be effected by a modern EP90.
I think most people say go for a GL3 spec or lower. |

Good old 46 CMD, with its Det at Ballykelly. Didn't serve with the workshop, but had many dealings over the years 71-73 and 79-87. Not much left now in Ballykelly except the building, which I am led to believe is a listed building I still see some of the old civilian staff now and again around my area. Paul. |

Fair comment re. the GL3, whether Radek would have the choice in his country, I do not know, but if there was any doubt, then a straight SAE 90 gear oil would be alright. Not that I can think of any bronze parts in the rear axle on an Austin.
