Default Lost & Found in Iraq

I've seen pictures of various types of WW2 AFVs found in Iraq, including Sherman tanks, M36 Tank Destroyer, M20 Armored car, M24 Chaffee, but also Churchill tank.

New to me was the find of a Light Tank Mark VIB and a Humber Armoured Car.

Hanno,

The Vickers Light Tank MkVIb has had extensive "mods" done to it. The drivers position appears to have been shifted to the engine bay. A vee configeration engine would appear to have been fitted in the hull below the turret, there being two holes cut in the hull sides for the exhaust outlets. Where the fuel tank would normally be, a mesh vent has been made in the rear face of hull, presumably for radiator cooling. Quite how they cobbled this up to the steering unit and final drives is anyones guess!

Oh....and the drooping gun barrel is a bit big, more like a length of scaffold pipe.

Richard
