Default Anyone from Winnipeg?

Hi ... is anyone in here from Winnipeg?

I think the general public can walk in to
the WINNIPEG FREE PRESS and access ARCHIVED
information. Does anyone know anything about
this?

My quest: There WAS an obituary with photo
published in the Wpg Free Press
of my Uncle, Rifleman Edward Smith. I can't
go to Winnipeg, and can't find someone to
go to the Free Press and check archives for me,
IF that can be done.

IF it can be done, any volunteeers like to
browse the archives and get a copy of that
photo-obit?

(I've NEVER been/or searched archived things, so don't know the process, or if it costs money, etc. I imagine it would be futile to search without at least a specific margine of dates.
He was officially declared deceased in 1945 ...according to service record telegram)

feedback?

Thanks

Karmen,
Winnipeg Free Press has an on line obit search engine.

http://www.winnipegfreepress2.com/obituaries/

Don't know what you'll find. If you strike empty, Email them. Perhaps they would send you an Ecopy free of charge. You can only ask. They can only say no. They CAN'T take away your birthday.

Cheers
JD
