Default What does this fit ? LOG BOOK

I found some of these many years ago . Looks like it had a canvas flap that clips onto the two studs .

its made from 20 gauge steel . About 8" high , 6" wide , 3/4" deep.

What type of vehicle did it fit ?

Mike

Hi Mike..
Those are the approximate measurements of the US Tech manuals ...
I'm looking at a shelf full of those manuals now and the TM9-729 which is the operations and maintenance manual for the M-24 Chaffee would fit in there perfectly...But these are not "Log Books" so don't want to suggest a red herring..

Default bren carrier

Thanks Alex,

Thinking about it , they could be for the Aust. type log books . I used to have some of them for the Aust. bren carrier and the Harley M/Cycle .

Hudsons stores in Melbourne used to sell them as note books for 50 cents each ! Back in the 1970's , I bought a few , but they have dissapeared over the years .

They would fit in that holder OK .

Hudson stores was like going back 50 years .... it was a mail order / hardware store since the 1930's . They purchased a lot of surplus stuff just after WW2 . The owners were two old eccentric brothers , the place was just hanging on in the mid 70's . It's long gone now , demolished . To buy anything , you had to negotiate and haggle a price for ages .

Default Log book holder

Hi Mike

These were added to CMPs in Australia, being introduced sometime in 1944, although not all had them. They were usually attached to the inside of the rear of the cab but I've also seen them on doors.

We had one fittted in our 44/45 Ford Blitz Ambulance. It was mounted up above the driver's right shoulder.

Wink I also have One!

Mike,

I also have one of these holders. Paint finish is a little better, missing most of the canvas flap, but mine is also impressed on the lower front with D/I\ D.

I intend to put it in the cab of my recently acquired 44 Chev Ute.

Anyone got a logbook that fits it going spare??

Ian
