Default Military vehicle art

Hi All

Late last year Salesman Bob and I crossed the border into Victoria and and attended the Bendigo Swap Meet looking for Jeep parts and military odds and sodds. The day was very, very wet and the mud in most places was up to the ankles, so we wandered into a hall which was packed with people escaping the rain, so we decided to browze and dry off.

Ferreting through piles of stuff I located a signed pencil drawing print of a 1942 MB Willys Jeep with a mounted .30 Cal. Well I was in the process of restoring a 1942 MB Jeep I had to have it at all cost. it was numbered 96/250 and signed by the artist, David IRVING. I put my batering skills aquired in Asia to work and after some argy bargy bought the print for $20.00, I was a very happy man. (Photos attached)

I googled. "David Irving" but found nothing but a lot of stuff about a bloke who was well known as a Holocaust skeptic. I then googled "David Irving Painter" and found the guy to be a New Zealand painter. His profile showed he did Military drawings so I clicked on Military on his profile and flipped through all his military vehicle paintings and found the print I had purchased.

I know there is a lot of interest shown on the MLU forum at the moment about military vehicles drawings and paintings and suggest anyone interested should google as I did or try; http://www.david-irving.com/ He has drawings of all the vehicles we have. Well recommended.

Cheers

Tony

All his Jeep drawings show the free wheel hubs, and the Nov '41 Willys' should be a slat grill? You going to tell him Mike......

Tony, missed this when you first posted, I have a copy of his Champ/Trailer drawing on the wall, like his style, wish he did the Humber as well.
Current price (For your Jeep drawing) is US$85.00, you did well. The only problem is that now all you will see is that damn Hub.
Rich.

Hi Rich

As I am only new to the game and still a novice I missed that, but I am happy with the price, I have to have a win every now and then. I will leave to the people with more knowledge to point out the defect.!!!

Cheers

Tony,

Contact Joe at the Army Tank Museum @ Puckapunyal and ask him for a copy of the jeep art work by Krystii Melaine. It's in Australian markings, doesn't have f/w hubs, and won't cost as much. Part of a set of four: Jeep, Dingo, Sentinel tank and LP1 carrier.

Smile Inappropriate apostrophe

Now Keefy, you are just assuming that the Jeep isn't owned by "Willy"!

If we ever find Willy to ask him about the Free Wheeling Hubs, then we can point him in the direction of this mob, who are apparently the official supplier of tyres to Willy's Jeep.

(Surely they would fit Jeeps owned by other people too?)

Free Willy, Willy's freewheeling hubs for Jeeps.

We'll make a limerick out of it yet...

Free wheeling Willy sped down the hill
We all knew he was oh! such a dill!
Cause hitting the brake
Was a Big mistake,
Cause it 'free-wheeled' Willy into steak.....

(with apologies to all for such a pathetic attempt....... but blame Keefy, he asked for it!

Tried to come up with something witty about that jeep tendency to pull heavily to the right into the oncoming (Australian) traffic, but alas, only the above occurred.

In a limerick, the fifth line rhymes with the first and second.
We await your second attempt.
