Default C60 Front engine mounts

Hi, I would like some advice. I am rebuilding my 216 motor. Other than the block & head castings (re bored) etc, crankshaft & camshaft (both ground), all of the other components are NOS. The NOS front engine plate, to which the front engine mount is attached, has two bolts swaged into it which are 1&7/8 or 47mm long. On the original motor the bolts are 2&7/8 or 70mm long, which accommodates the height of the spacer (see pictures). Obviously this spacer affects the motor height etc. Is this spacer an “improvement “ fitted to later production models etc ? Do I have something belonging to a non Blitz model ? I will not be able to change the bolts once the plate is fitted. I really want to use it, as the original is badly worn from being loose on the spacer.
Perhaps related to this, the top radiator hose on the original motor set up was not in a straight alignment to the top tank. I think the removal of the spacer might correct this. Or I might have the wrong radiator ?
Your advice will be greatly appreciated. I will post some more pictures of the motor. Thanks, Ken.

Default Parts book

Ken

The thing to do is look at the parts list/book for your truck. See if there is a spacer listed ?

Looks good anyway . Are you weighing the pistons ? Blueprinting to some degree ?

Hi Mike, Yes I checked the parts book again. The spacer (if I have the right one) is a 1794274. This is not used on the 8 or 15 models. So I must have a plate for one of these. I hope someone could back me up on this.
About my motor, I have had the crankshaft balanced from the harmonic balancer to the fly wheel & pressure plate. The pistons (cast iron NOS) & rods were difficult, 6+ ounces on some.
I notice you have some Morris commercials, I have an LD5, have had LD2s as well, a fleet of them over the years. I have many spare parts, but don’t know how much would be compatible with what you may have. I have given my last one a ground up restoration. Mine have Austin engines. I have had some that had crash boxes,& others with the Austin Gipsy syncro 4WD English army box.

Default Ok

I guess you know about the Morris Commercial club, based in the UK. They have a web site and forum, but the forum is pretty much dead in the water .

I think the LD5 was a van ? Ambulances and Mr Whippy ice cream ?

Not sure about that spacer , you need feedback from another C60 owner . Your engine should run like a swiss watch after all of that balancing

Not withstanding possible variations between Cdn and Aust build Chev CMP's, Ken, my Canadian Master List shows only one bolt length for the Engine Front Mounting for the 60-cwts: No. 3652729 3/8" x 24 by 2" length.

Two different plate assemblies were used, however.

1st: No. 1795565
2nd: No. 5269554

Only one Spacer shows up: No. 1794274

No good pictures of any of it, sadly. Hope this helps.

Rule for the spacer if I recall correctly is that it was used on the C15A and up through to the C60, and not used on the C8, C8A and C-15. The longer bolts on the plate would accommodate the springs as mentioned and the rad height took care of itself due to the different shape of the frame rails.

Hi, Thank you to all the people who gave advice to me on this. I now have a definitive answer. The NOS plate I have is a 839065. This is only for as model 8 & 15. The plate 1795565 that I actually require is exactly the same as the 839065, except that the two mounting bolts for the engine mount are longer. The bolts (7/16 AF) are swaged into the plate, hence the different part number. These bolts, or the castellated nuts, do not show up in the parts list in the 0.004 group, as they are considered an integral part of the plate. The spacer 1794274 is required. The actual “mount “ is rubber (I have a new one). There are no springs.
I will replace the short bolts with the longer ones, & the problem will be solved.
If it is of any help to anyone, I have pulled down about six + motors to get the block, head, & crank etc. that I chose to recondition. I will keep one as a spare & the rest may help someone else. There are heads ( for flat top & dome pistons) cam gears, blocks, sumps, cam followers, pistons & rods, oil pumps, & manifolds.
Beside the C60 I am restoring, have 3 to 4 others in pieces as well & I am only going to retain reasonable quantities of spares when I complete this vehicle. I may be able to help you with something, & you may be able to help me .
Ken Thomas.

Add to the above. See page K3 in manual Fig 6. How did I miss this one?
