Default Syd Beck

Just saw online Syd Beck, founder of the aircraft and vehicle museum at Mareeba has passed away.

Syd went to prodigious efforts to save aircraft and vehicles and used CMPs to recover the remains of a P39 Airacobra.

The museum also is home to a SC1 Scout car (unrestored) and a FGT cab 12 which is sitting on a F15A chassis, as well as the C15A Wireless Signals van which I used to drive here in Melbourne in the mid 1970s and was used by someone to move home in the 80s to FNQ.

Default Pic

Here's a pic of the Sigvan in the Museum I took back in 2009.

The FGT is mouth watering.

Default Beck,s

Myself and dad have visited his place several times and it was never a chore and he gave his time freely to chat to dad. Sad times indeed. Dad spent time just down the road before going north with the Torres Strait Force.

Default V1

Certainly looks like it... wonder whether it's real.

I must admit the excitement of seeing the Sigvan again after all that time made it the centre of attraction for me.

Will have to check my other photos.
