Essex & Kent Scottish Reunion, Windsor, Ontario, 15-17 Oct 04
The Essex and Kent Scottish (known affectionately as the Eeks and Squeeks) will be celebrating thier long service to Canada on the weekend of 15-17 Oct 04 in Windsor, Ontario. They will be inaugurating thier new armoury.
A large parade is planned featuring past and present military vehs. The pride of place will go to thier newly restored 6 pounder anti-tank gun. So far they have eight (count 'em, 8!) carriers attending. The parade route is some six km through the city departing the old armoury and arriving at the new. MV'ers interested in participating should contact the E&K Scots RSM, MWO Kirk Drew at 519-254-2535 x544 or drew.kg@forces.gc.ca Cheers, Mike

SITREP?
Waiting for a report from those who attended... I was sick Friday and couldn't face a day out in the rain Saturday, so didn't attend. Transportation for me was iffy as well.
I hope there were lots of photos taken!

Cold and wet good time.
The big day has come and gone, and it was a success.
The day was cool and drizzly, so I did not get to give the Prince a ride in my Carrier, but the EKS allowed me to pull the 6-pounder in the parade. Lots of bagpipe tunes and drum playing along the route. Plenty of re-enactors, men in kilts, heck, there were even 2 soldiers in horseback - Boer war style. What the Prince passed on the HLI gang eagerly exploited and enjoyed quite a long parade. 5 Carriers were able to make the trek, so the folks in Corowa should be able to muster at least that many, hopefully more! The new police and militia centre is quite a marvel. The local and federal politicians have gotten together and funded a dual use facility that should be the envy of communities all over. I will try to shrink down some of the pictures that were taken - I think that I even got one of Charlie Fitton and Perry Kitson together - to try and finally disprove the media idea that they are one in the same. SITREP
The ceremonies at Windsor armouries were outstanding.
Friday night saw an open house for the general public with parade vehicles on display, re-enactors from all eras, pipe band music, big band sound and dancing, BBQ by the Salvation Army and yes, plenty of our favourite beverages at very modest prices. Saturday morning was cold and wet. I arrived at the armoury early to check out the staging process prior to the parade. Vehicles and groups were staged out on Freedom Way beside the armoury building for a formal inspection before the parade marched approximately 7km to the new facilities. There were several hundred people involved in the parade itself with elements from the Essex and Kent Regt, Windsor Regt, 21 Service Battalion incl EME guys, variuos re-enactors and plenty of vehicles. There were many universal carriers, a couple halftracks, Sherman tank, jeeps etc. The parade ended at the new facility with the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting. Unfortunately it began to rain quite heavily which caused a change in format for the ceremonies at the armoury as things were to take place outdoors. All in all, a great opportunity to interact with the public and our armed forces. Pics to follow... |
