Both by appearance and the maker's labels it was built as an ambulance. Appears to have originally been painted flat green with a later repaint in a glossier, darker tone.
Probably at its best on hard surfaces or gravel roads, possible firm earth. Most ambulances are quite heavy, so not at their best in soft fields although the 4x4 might help (get further into trouble before needing to be towed out).
It's being sold out of Downsview - central Toronto. Other items from CFB Trenton or Borden often seem to be sold from the bases, not brought in to Toronto. Is there a reserve Field Ambulance unit in Toronto that might be the source?

There was/is a Ford Ambulance that is somewhat "SMP". They are not common, but I have seen them here and there over the years. I would have to check at work to see if this was one of them.

In the old days, the 1976 Dodge one tons had an ambulance version, and some were repainted white and used on th airforce bases For that matter, I recall seeing a white M42 3/4 tonamb in CFB Edmonton back around 1980. Later, they were replaced with CUCVs, which were usually left in their camo, since the airfields had gone to olive drab for their airfield support vehicles by that point. It may be that whatever base was using this did not feel the olive drab was appropriate.

They were potentially a crash amb, so the 4wd was appropriate.

Best guess: Sofcom or VIP escort ambulance. Crash vehicules seen recently in Bagotville, Trenton , Comox , Victoria were firetruck yellow. Remember G8 summit in around Toronto and all the VIP they had to move around all the way up to Huntsville ?
