Default ARVN C-15TA pictures

Also see my C15TA page for pictures of C15TAs in use in Vietnam in the 1960s. Note that the hull side armour has been extended in an effort to improve crew protection. This feature was found on Malaysian C15TAs as well. Apparently other AFVs were sold by Malaysia to Vietnam, so perhaps the C15TAs and Lyxes were too.

Quote:
Simon Dunstan in VIETNAM TRACKS Armour In Battle 1945-75 captioned the picture on the left as follows: "The ARVN employed a wide range of vehicles for convoy escort, including this Canadian 15-cwt GM C15TA Aromored Truck of Second World War vintage. Such elderly equipment was normally used by service support units and 'Ruff-puffs' (RF/PF - Regional and Provincial Forces). (James Loop)"

Default another C15TA in Vietnam

Speaking of C15TA's in Vietnam, here's another pic from the Australian War Memorial Collection Databases - nice to see a date put to the use of C15TA's in Vietnam.

Default ARVN C-15TA pictures

These are courtesy of a polish chap by the name of Jerzy, or George in english. Included is a link to his online albums. He also has an amazing collection of Aussie M113 APC pictures in Vietnam and other conflicts. But this isn't post war forums so I'll shoosh.

Album.

Ryan, thanks for taking the time to post these C15TA photos. There are not a lot of photos around for this truck so you have just made my day.
Cheers,
Barry

Default Vietnamese C15TA

I've been looking for sometime now to find a pic of one of the C15TA's that the French used in Indo-China. Here's a pic of one taken post 1968, as that was when the Advisor compound at Cao Lanh was named the "Crum" compound used by the 44th Special Tactical Zone ARVN soldiers. The French gave their C15TA's to the South Vietnamese military after losing the first Indo-China War. This must be one of the last of these armoured vehicles actually used in combat. Enjoy the pic!

CHIMO!

To keep the subject in one thread, I merged with your earlier thread and my relevant postings from Lynx in Vietnam.

Default C15ta

Interesting video showing a C15TA body as a war monument in Vietnam. Wonder if they would part with it? Some shots of the body are at the beginning of the video but the best views are around the 12:55 mark.

Rob, great find.

As it is part of a "memorial for the North Vietnamese soldiers who lost their lives during the Viet Nam War" I doubt they would part with it.

The last picture clearly shows how the side armour was heightened.

Lynx and C15TA being used by the ARVN during the Vietnam War. The Lynx has been modified with an armoured roof and locally fabricated machine-gun turret

I suspect the Lynx turret is also ex Malaya. It also has a bracket for a spare wheel on the front as per the Malaya photo.

Hanno,

Nice image.

Your comment much earlier on about how it was nice to see a date on the AWM image, and Ryan's AWM image at post 15: for official images in those days, by Defence Dept photographers (not later donated private images), the code 'CUN/66/ ...' indicates the photographer, in this case Bill Cuneen, and the year, 1966, so at least with most of these images, the year can be pinned down.

Mike
