Brake rod covers
I've searched the forum high and low for some images of the brake rod covers on the hull floor. I'm sure I saw a drawing from someone, but can't find it anywhere.
Does anyone know where to find the post, or even better the dimensions of the two covers in question? Many thanks, Tom

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the response, which is fortuitous as I've been pointed toward you as someone who made a set of the cover's I'm looking for. Here's a picture of the parts I'm trying to replicate. I may have incorrectly named them? Cheers, Tom. P.S. I do also need the bellows that you have identified, but I'm assuming they are unavailable being 'soft parts'?

Will check my stash Tom, may have a pair, or at least good patterns to make some more, I believe there should also be some springs under the rods which mount to the floor, my memory is a bit fuzzy on that detail though.

You are correct Richard, there should be spring underneath (at least on Mk.IIs). I have drawing somewhere, but Im almost sure that that drawing is also somewhere here on the forum. Try to dig it out Tom

I think this is the spring you are looking for, I can't remember who was good enough to put it on here, but copied it for when I get round to making some.

Here are the covers I had made and you can see in the first pic where the spring plate mounts under the cover.

Thanks Dave, I'll do that. Can you tell me what thickness of steel you used?

Tom , i dont have my originals (on loan) and I dont know if I have the lengths bang on, but on one side, the front goes into the cam plate cover. Not sure what hapens on the other side. I folded a channel and then with a frame made from 2 bits of angle, I pressed my round crowbar into the flat center. This gave me an inside dia of about 29mm and a height from the floor of about 30mm.
The short one is 460 long and the long one is 604mm. The back end of them stops under the rear bogie frames. The flanges are about 17- 18mm wide and I think the flat center was about 76mm wide. so cut your material at about 110mm wide. try a test piece. I used 2mm which is probably heavier than original.

That’s great, thanks Lynn. Another Helpful Carrier owner called me on Friday to offer me some preformed sections that just need cutting to the right length. Now you’ve told me the lengths I have everything I need.
Thanks again to all.
