Default Jetty Paerl

Can any of our Dutch friends here find a nice wartime video of this WW2 London based Dutch singer who inspired her nation from afar? Maybe a little history on her? Cheers Rob

Rob,

I have to confess I never heard of her before you mentioned her here

Here's a short write-up on her: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetty_Paerl, more here in Dutch: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetty_Paerl

Of Jewish descent, she lived in London during WW2, where she participated in the broadcasts of Radio Oranje, the Dutch government in exile, and was known as Jetje van Radio Oranje ("Jetty of Radio Orange"). Youtube has sound recordings featuring Jetty: https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...t+de+Watergeus

Besides being a singer, she was a driver in 3-ton trucks in the Vrijwillig Vrouwen Hulpkorps, the Dutch WAC. Who knows, she could have driven CMPs!

Hope this satisfies your interest.

H.
