Can anyone please tell me what the three holes on the side of the cab floor frame are used for?

I've been through my collection of pictures of Pattern 13s and have found them on many C60S,L, &X and C15s. But not on HUPs.

This question as come up before and I seem to remember that they are used in the artic kit. But I've checked my artic kit manual and don't see them being used.

Thanks Phil. Ive seen them on C60's in New Zealand too. I thought that they might be only on New Zealand CMP's. Are they on all of the large pattern 13 Canadian CMP's?

I have not spotted them on FATs, but so far I've spotted them on all Chevy Pictures that have that level of resolution. How about some of the FORD types in our merry little band checking to see if they are on Fords.

HUPs have two bolt holes, but these seem at least on the later ones to be, for the mounting the fuel filter.

They must have had a purpose. Otherwise why would they go to the extra effort and cost to punch or drill them eh?

Do you think that its because Holden Aust made their own bodys?
Did Holden make all the own cab floors? and buy in motors chassis and running gear?

I raised this question some time ago, as my C30 also has them, but I still don't know what they are for. Phil mentioned their possible use on the artic kits, but could'nt find any evidence. Would they have been pre-drilled for tropical use possibly ?. Come on guys, there must be some details somewhere.

Would it have been used as part of the set up jig when welding the cab 13 various conponents together...???

When checking our various cab 13 we also found another hole.... of no apparent use......consistently about 9 inches around the corner of the same part facing the rear section......

Do Fords have them....???

Holden built the entire cab and also locally produced the bodies which were designed by the Army, including many of the rear GS bodies used on Australian built Fords. Ford on the other hand imported much of the cab including the cab frame and front shell but not the floor, roof or rear panel.
Your cab is of course Canadian built.

The only thing that they could have been used for is a different type of step. Do early prototype cmp's have similar steps to later 13 cabs?

To the best of my knowledge only the cab 13 has the holes in the lower floor rocker panel..... for a lack of better words.

The cab 11 and cab 12 had a 1/4 inch floor...... 1/2 inch reinforcement corner plates..... but basically it has no room or no place for any such holes.

The steps or running board and the support legs on both the cab 11/12 and the cab 13 are all bolted to the side of the frame......

the holes in question are for deep wading coverings for d/day type landings
i dont know how they were fitted,but maybe this will help to get to the bottom of it

...checked out two Ford cab 13 and they DO NOT have the holes..... does this mean Ford were no good at wading and only Chebby where used.....hihihi.... I know most Ford ignition system will ground out if the driver even thinks of having to go...!!!

Seriously I was surprised NOT to find the same 3 holes on the Fords......

Any other observed differently..??

I havent seen any Fords with them either. Most Fords dont even make it to water before they breakdown Hehehehe. But I'm a chev man so that might sound a bit bias.

If the 3 holes are for wading equipment for D-Day how come they were drilled in my 1942 CGT ?

I think they were for jigging the floor assembly during welding.

maybe the three holes were an early attempt by chev to lighten the body work so they could keep up with fords!

I thought Ford added an extra 2 cylinders to the engine so they could keep up with the Chevies!

I thought about them being used for jiging. But you would only need the front and the rear holes for that, and also there are no holeson the wheel arch to hold that in a jig while being welded.

hi there Wheldon, i have spoken with fred about these holes and he is certain that they are for the deep wading kit,he even says that someone here in nz has a photo of it fitted and has seen the photo himself,but can not remember who had it,perhaps put an advert in the bulletin here in nz to jog someones memory?

I am not really the Bulletin Editor Letter just one of the slaves that some of the members like to abuse and insult occasionally.

I'll add a query in the next Bulletin, should get some interesting answers, although most of the guys that reply in the bulletin with knowledge or at least Logic appear on these pages from time to time as well

Yeah Dave, it drives like a dream. Been for a few half hour drives in the back hills at night. I havent been a member of the nzmvcc for at least 5 years. I suppose the members havent changed in that time. Thanks guys for putting the question in the bulletin.
