Default Spotted 09:25 19 May 19

Hi All

Was sitting at the computer and heard the sound of some big rotary aircraft engines, ran out side to see if I could spot them and what I saw was a C47/Dakota flying in the low clouds. Followed by another only got one photo that came out as they pop back into the clouds at about 2000 feet.

If they had been 7 minutes later would neither heard nor seen them as a thunderstorm just rolled over the mountain heavy rain and ceiling dropped to under 900 feet.

Pretty sure they are part of the D-Day flight getting ready.

Cheers Phil

No Danger Pay for volunteer heritage pilots!
Was probably wishing for some of the fancy avionics from his regular day job.

Many aircraft were lost during the war in New Guinea in exactly the same conditions, and often weren't found again until decades later.

Looks like a pair of C47 making the cross Atlantic flight for Daks over Duxford.

Hi Phil

Looks like they may have been the ones from Oxford, Conn. They flew out on the morning of the 19th bound for Goose, the UK and eventually France.

No idea if the Blue Spruce Route goes over Temple but.............likely.

Flight planning software confirms the track KOXC-CYYR would be close.
