Thank you Rick for posting. I enjoyed going through it.
When she is on the outer limits of mans ability, she has to be impressive.
I was talking to a guy at SKF here in Kalgoorlie. There has been an order placed for a million dollar bearing, a slew ring ( with a nine month lead time) Because of the size of the bearing, it could only go in the Antanov at an angle, and the freight cost to Sydney would be around the $1.2 million. (Perth's airport runway is too short)
Apparently the final result is that it will come by ship.

Default This aircraft was in KAF in 2008

I saw this plane on the ground at Kandahar in winter 2008. The boss dragged us out to go see it. He said, you'll never get another chance. Even from a distance it is huge. We speculated they were bringing in a shaft or turbine for the Kajaki Dam project.

Definately impressive. I have seen it here at Schiphol airport a few years ago, when it still had the old paint scheme. It actually spent quite a few days there....it was too heavy to cross the fly-over over the motorway, so it could not reach the normal terminal and had to be loaded on the platform next to the motorway. Then when it was finally going to leave, something broke on the landing gear and it had to stay some more time for repairs.
From what I have heard KLM was happy it finally left as it occupied the platform that they claim is theirs

What is it about the Russians and their giant aircraft?!! They sure are impressive, I love their giant helicopters too. You can only be in awe of something so big it has no right to fly, and you have to respect the designers who consistently prove otherwise. As Boney M said, "Oh those Russians!"
