Default Your toughest CMP part to find???

What CMP piece just does not seem to be showing up for you? If you've been at this crazy hobby for a while, more often than not the pieces come into place thru the wealth of knowledge here, and this great fraternity. But sometimes, some pieces have slipped thru the cracks for you. What are those pieces? I'll start this thread with a couple of my own. HUW fuze box and blackout light switches for the back 3 doors. Pics always preferred. Cheers Rob

Default Hardest to find......

The coupler between the winch and the transfer case........ made of unobtainium and not made since the late 40s.

It had to be taken apart to remove it and re-installed the same way with new grade 8 bolts.

Default Here's a couple of mine

First is a 'Wheat Lamp'. It is a miner's lamp used in the Fox. The lamp is on the left attached to a trickle charger and the battery is on the right. It seems the old brass miner's lamps are available as are the modern LED ones but nobody thought to save any of these from the 1940's. I've been after once since I first got my Fox and was successful only last month.

Second is the wireless table, battery trays and seat bases for my HUW. I can't imagine there are any originals to be had so these are my reproductions as accurately as I can make them based on drawings from UK friends.

Rob, I'm also in the market for one of those HUW fuse boxes and, like the rest of the HUW interior, I'm not confident I will ever find one. I do have accurate drawings and will be making one up. If you are interested I can send you a copy.

Default Cab 12 windscreen bag

Found a cab 12 windscreen cover at a swap meet not knowing what it was, I bought it for the buckles only to discover it fitted a cab 12 windscreen.
Never seen another.

They look like LEYRUB joints - used on the Morris Commercial 8 cwt PU & CS8 15 cwt trucks . They used them on the prop shaft . Also used on post war Commer trucks of the 1950's , the Commer knocker . Been told the little building site Lister dump things used them .

I know of a place that has some NOS , but he wants 180 bucks each

I think the Humber 4X4 of WW2 uses them too , between the gearbox and transfer box ?

Default Careful you......

.... we will not let you back in to get parts....!!!!

Never seen such a device..... we get so little sun here we would never use it.... Only the Australian would cut out the roof section...ie Sun roof.... then add a canvas on the windshield for shade......

There must be a Canadian equivalent made of beaver pelts to keep the windshield from icing up.

Cheers

That windshield cover would be to keep aircraft from spotting the suns reflected glare. Remember cabs 11 & 12 windshields slanted back.
My Cletrac had the same thing.

Default Response to Mike Kelly.....

I have seen one very used up for over that $180...... I eventually bought a whole rolling chassis primarily for that again for more than the NOS.....

Any web site we might look at for the NOS ones????

I rebuilt mine with new bolts sandblasted, etc. but would be hesitant to use the winch at full capacity because of the hardened rubber pucks that provided the joint flexibility. I found similar concept coupler for old american tractors.... joining the output of the engine to the transmission input...... but intended for smaller engines with low (20)HP and low RPM......

A new NOS one, if the rubber is not dried up, would be nice...

Cheers

Ferntree Gully - yes that was where Norm had the NOS LAYRUB joints in his shop , too pricey for me . Seems they are still used widely today .

Default head pad

The head pad for a 13 cab, drivers side.
The only one I've ever seen still on a truck.
No idea as to the thickness.

An original radiator over-flow tank off a Chev would be handy also.

The pad for the hatch of a Cab 12, the cylindrical interior light, and the wide type rifle clip as been eluding me for some time now.

Universal Carrier tire air has eluded me since I've been in the hobby, especially the kind that came in a special can that would hear it up prior to use and blow it into the tires.

Back on topic, for me I'd say the chirehorse tray that was used on the FFW 15cwt trucks. Well actually any of the brackets and boxes. Seems to be a common issue with the wireless trucks.

Default Still searching

Guys,

While I have been positively surprised at some of the obscure parts that I have been able to find, the shield for the fuel tank caps is still eluding me. Currently planning on having them fabricated, but would dearly like to find originals. The part number is C-19SR - 9112 - "shield - cap - fuel tank filler neck".

Peter

Peter, if it is possible to get one loaned out to you it may be possible to have them sand cast.

Default Unique CMP

Anyone have any spare body panels, window frames, front doors, A, B and C pillars for the Pilot model HUP?

Default Hard to find parts for Australian CMPs

Good Holden design window frames are almost nonexistent due to their rust prone design, as are the local Ford roof hatches.

Other hard to find things are as Wayne mentioned good Chev overflow tank, the correct CMP mirrors, usable 10.50-20 tyres of the correct pattern, also Canadian type front fairleads for the arty tractors are rare here.

Default Windscreen Canvas

This was designed to stop reflection primarily in static positions but it also could be used when driving with the windscreen fully open. Aust CMP windscreens had longer arms to allow the screen to be opened up to horizontal, hence the ability to employ the w/screen cover to reduce reflection.

The Cab 13 had two windscreen covers, one for each half, and footman loops on the leading edge of the roof to secure them in position.

Default Surprising...

It's surprising there aren't more photographs of them. From memory I have only ever seen one WW2 photo with them deployed.
