What a bargin !!! Was it sold? I spoke to Alan (former owner) about this truck some time ago, apparently they run it out of water but he had a new head available as well as the original body. Is this the start of the "thinning out" of the museum collection ??, rumor had it that all items had been placed into a trust of some type to hold the collection together..... Kind regards Matt |

This vehicles real identity is a Scammell Explorer, which was the replacement for the wartime Scammell Pioneer SV2S. The Explorer is a 6x6 Breakdown Tractor and would originally have carried a petrol engine, although many have diesel replacements.
In summary it is definetly not wartime, but a 50's inmprovement on a wartime theme ( in my humble opinion not as good looking though )

Have seen this vehicle many times at the late Harold Thomas's aircraft museum at Narellan.
Harold told me he thought it was used at Woomera by the RAF, but the colours were not correct, but the paint was too bad to see underneath. Far more importantly, they could be going to dispose of all the military vehicles. Matilda Going condition Half track going condition Grant was under going restoration One of those swimming tanks, as Harold used to call it. Hull badly rusted. Could be worth a phone call if you live in Sydney. Regards Col
