Another one goes to a new home. 1941 F60L
I purchased this 1941 F60L as a cab chassis back in about 1996 from the Wagga Wagga Truck Wreckers. It came with a large quantity of new spare pares and is obviously a low mileage truck. It has Ford Script fanbelts and its original exhaust system with curved ends on the muffler.
I also acquired the Recuperator Service Body from Hughes Trading of Coburg about the same time and united them. Unfortunately it was well down on the list for restoration and I made the decision to pass it on to another owner. Originally fitted with engine No. 2G38743F it was being set up by a previous owner to tour Australia. On the left there is a fuel tank from a short wheel base GMC 6x6 as well as the original on the right. It was fitted with brand new 11.00x20. tyres. The chassis has an army extension at the rear which allowed the Recuperator body to bolt straight on to the extended chassis with the u-bolts from the workshop body originally fitted to it. Here is photo of the recuperator body on a Cab 13.

The bonnet has its original rubber edging and the rubber seal for the front doors are both in good condition, just a bit perished.
The rubber pedals are unmarked as is the accelerator pedal and the steps are not worn. This all points to a vehicle with very little use in it’s life. I had to pull the distributor and clean the points and after refitting it she fired right up. A ‘B’ Double arrived today to take it away and it was a bit sad to see it go but as I am nowdays somewhat immobile, I am glad to see her go to her new home. More to come..

The Recuperator Service Body is a full sealed air-conditioned workshop to service the recuperators for the 25 pounders and other big guns in a dust free environment. Originally behind the truck cabin, under the veranda roof there was a 3 stage ‘RIX’ compressor powered by a 4 cylinder engine. This compressor could boost the air storage to 3,000 psi. The air storage was in bottles like oxy bottles stored down each side. A gantry slides out the back to enable the recuperators to be brought on board and set up on trestles for servicing.
The spare wheel hides in this locker on the left. I would not want to have to lift it up to close the locker door. The interior still has many of the original fittings and lights. One original mirror was still fitted on the left and I provided the correct head lamp shells and tow hook to the new owner. In at least three places there is this number scratched into the lining. Does it mean No.8 body of 41 built or was it built in August 1941? I am pleased to pass it on to the new owner. I still have my 1940 FORD F30S 134" wb. cab chassis to find a new home for. Regards Rick.
